About the Freddies

For 19 years, frequent travelers have been asked to make their picks for the best frequent travel programs via the Freddie Awards. Introduced by InsideFlyer magazine publisher Randy Petersen in 1988, the Freddies allow members to rank airline and hotel programs from their point of view. The awards have grown in stature and importance and are the most prestigious member-generated awards in the industry.

The 20th Annual Freddie Awards presentation ceremony will be held on April 24, 2008 at the Wyndham Phoenix.

Frequent guest and frequent flyer programs from around the world compete in nine Freddie Award categories, culminating in the highly coveted Program of the Year award.

Individual Categories are:

  • Best Award

  • Best Bonus

  • Best Affinity Credit Card

  • Best Newsletter/Member Communications

  • Best Web Site

  • Best Customer Service

  • Best Award Redemption

  • Best Elite Level

  • Program of the Year
  • Freddie voting focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined not by how many votes a program receives, but by the overall merits of each program as reflected in "Value Voting." Value Voting asks voters to assign a number between 1 and 10 for each program in addition to simply ranking programs according to the voter's preference. The program receiving the highest average Value Vote with at least 1 percent of the overall popular vote in a category wins that category. In some categories, results are so close that Value Votes have to be tallied to four decimal numbers.
